The eWeigh works seamlessly with the iLivestock app for easy pairing and simple weighing, with or without EID. You can also follow these steps for compatible weigh heads.

eWeigh Pairing & Setup

How to pair your eWeigh to the iLivestock app:

Step 1: Turn on the eWeigh and Bluetooth will automatically be activated. If using a compatible weigh head, ensure Bluetooth is turned ON.

Next, Select Equipment on the lower navigation bar of the screen

and then tap the + Add device under My Weigh Head(s)

Step 2: A list of compatible weigh heads will be displayed, with the eWeigh at the top

Next, tap the word PAIR next to the eWeigh.

Step 3: The eWeigh will start to pair with the iLivestock app

How to Setup your eWeigh once paired

Step 4: Once the pairing is complete the eWeigh will then show under your Weigh Head(s) and the green tick will confirm its paired.

Step 5: Tap the Go Weigh button to be taken to the eWeigh (or compatible weigh head) Setup screen.

Here, choose the type of weighing that will happen based on your weighing process on the farm.

  • Speed or Accuracy

We recommend 'Balanced' for the most common weighing scenario.

  • Weigh Bar / Load Cell Configuration

Select Weigh Bar/ Load Cell configuration depending on how many bars you are using.

  • Species Being Weighed

Select the relevant sheep or cattle that will be weighed - if using iLivestock for goats, we recommend selecting sheep.

  • Weigh Bar Type

Use the scrolling list to find and select the relevant brand and size of the weigh bars/load cells you are using for the session.

Note: The eWeigh needs to know the correct make/model and calibration of weigh bars/load cells. If you are unsure:

  • Blue cables suggest Tru-Test bars

  • Orange cables suggest Ritchie bars.

  • If you have a Rappa eWeighCrate, select 'eWeighBar600' or 'Tru-test Multipurpose' here.

Self Calibration

By scrolling to the bottom of the load cell selection list, you'll see the 'Self Calibration' option. If you are unsure of the weigh bars you are using, you can choose this option, then use a calibrating weight to calibrate the eWeigh yourself.

See the guide to use the Self Calibration here 👉 Self Calibration

Next, tap 'GO WEIGH'

Step 6: You will now be taken to the weigh screen and are ready to weigh!

How to weigh with eWeigh or a compatible Weigh Head and EID

Once the eWeigh is paired and set up, you can weigh in conjunction with EID scanning for speed or without, if not using EID.

When your eWeigh is connected to the app, the screen will show pink at the top, and when you also have an EID reader connected, the screen will show green.

eWeigh connected = Pink Screen

eWeigh and EID reader connected = Green Screen.

How to weigh with eWeigh and EID reader connected:

If you have all of your animals and their EIDs already added into your iLivestock account, you can weigh quickly by scanning manually or automatically using your EID reader and eWeigh connected to the app at the same time.

You can also add new animals to the app and weigh at the same time, by simply scanning new EIDs as you weigh. You might need to go back and add any individual animal info to the new animals if needed.

Step 1: Check that both the eWeigh and also your eTagReader (or compatible EID reader) is paired with the app. A green tick shows both as connected.

Note: When the eWeigh AND EID reader is paired, the top of the app screen will turn GREEN as shown above

Step 2: Make sure your eWeigh is set up correctly by selecting each setting as per your weighing set-up - See eWeigh Pairing and Setup guide for more details on this.

Then hit the red Go Weigh! button at the bottom of the screen to start your weigh session.

Step 3: The weigh screen will then appear and you are ready to weigh!

Step 4: As the animal steps onto the weigh bars, the weight value will begin to go up and change into different colours until it stabilises.

Step 5: Once the weight has stabilised, the app will make a bell noise and the weigh value will get have the weigh metric 'kg' appear at the end and the total value will go dark green.

Step 6: Now scan the EID tag of the animal to marry the weight to the animal. Once scanned the screen will go bright green and the animal details such as EID, VID, previous weight, age, DLWG, Gain since last weight, and KG per day for overall weight will be displayed.

(If not using EID see Weighing without EID section further down in this guide)

If you feel the weight was not captured correctly for any reason, tap the 'Reweigh' button

If you are happy with the weight, tap the red 'Record' button. This will immediately save the weight and zero the scales ready for the next animal.

*********AUTO RECORD********

Tap Auto Record at the beginning of the session, so that each time you scan, the weight is automatically saved against the animal, instead of having to confirm each one by tapping RECORD for each animal.

Step 7: Once you have recorded your last animal, the screen should be empty of animal details, and your weigh values show zero, you can tap the Finish button top left of the screen to finish the session.

Step 8: A confirmation box will now appear prompting you to confirm FINISH WEIGHING or to continue weighing.

Step 9: Once FINISH WEIGHING is confirmed, your weights and weigh session animals will be stored in Auto Groups.

Auto Groups can be found by navigating to Groups in the lower navigation menu and then 'Auto' in the top menu.

The session will be marked as a Weigh Session (weigh symbol) with the date and time that the session was run and how many animals were in the session.

Step 10: You can open the session to view the animals that were weighed.

Step 11: You can then open each animal as required to see the weights stored under metrics on the animal summary page.

How to Weigh without EID:

If you don't yet use EID (Electronic IDentification tagging) then you can still use eWeigh by tapping and searching your Visual ID or Management Tag to add a weight to an individual animal.

Note: With just the eWeigh connected your screen will show pink at the top when you launch eWeigh.

Step 4: Once the weight has stabilised tap the search bar at the very top of the screen

Step 5: Start to type in the last 4 -5 digits of the Visual ID (for cattle this will be the Passport Number) a list of compatible animals will appear in a list for you to tap to select

Step 6: Once selected, the animal Visual ID will then populate the Visual field in the weigh session screen and the screen will go bright green - ready for you to tap record or reweigh

How to view your weight metrics for an individual animal:

Step 1: Find and open the animal you wish to view and then tap the weights band under the Metrics header on the animal summary screen to bring up the Animal Metrics menu.

Step 2: Select Data View to see the metric data in text format.

Step 3: Or select Graph View to see in a graph growth curve format.

How to export or download Weigh Session data:

iLivestock has a set of exportable data files that can be exported as a CSV from a group view on the app from your mobile or tablet device.

Or you can head to the iLivestock Dashboard which is the online data view of your account. Here there is larger view of your herd and flock that can be filtered and downloaded. There are set of fixed reports to view and export in either PDF or .CSV format.

Exporting from mobile or tablet:

Step 1: Go to and open the group of animals you wish to export data for, then tap the action button to bring up the Group Actions menu.

Note: If you've just completed a weigh session, the session will also be stored in Auto Groups, where you can also export a weigh file from.

Step 2: From the Group Actions menu, select Group Exports.

Step 3: From the Group Exports menu, select the Weight Performance File.

Step 4: Once you have selected the data file you want to export, the app will then prompt you to select a way to send the data.

Here you can select email, WhatsApp or any delivery mechanism that works for you.

Step 5: If selecting email, then type in the email address you want to send the data to.

Step 6: Press send, and the data file will be sent to your inbox.
